Ms. Merrill

Greetings Farnsworth Aerospace Parents, Guardians, and Students,

I am excited about connecting with our Farnsworth students and families for our school year!  In my role as a 7th English Language Arts (ELA) teacher, I look forward to engaging with our Farnsworth scholars in our Readers and Writers Workshop learning together.

My professional career has been devoted to education.  For the first nine years, I was a grades 9-12 English teacher (2003-12), and then a high school reading specialist for two years.  For six years, I had the fulfilling opportunity to serve our Farnsworth teachers, students, and families with literacy development as a literacy coach.  In my current role, I look forward to collaborating with families on how we can implement literacy strategies to meet your student's learning needs.

I look forward to learning about each of my students as we begin the year together!  I would like to introduce myself and share some of my personal interests with you.  I am a lifelong tennis player and a big fan of women’s college tennis. I also enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, gardening, or working in my yard.

I believe in the STEAM mission and vision of our school.  I am inspired by how our school community encourages our students to be their best selves, whether it's through students immersing themselves in our STEAM programming, or pursuing other academic or personal interests that our school offers, such as after-school sports or Flipside.

To see an overview of how your child's ELA classes are structured and what your child will be learning in my classes, please view this syllabus:

Parents, I would also like to offer these Schoology resources for you to see how your child is doing academically in my classes.

If you would like directions on how to see your child's Schoology grades, and missing or completed work in my classes, please view this resource:

Your child can check their grades in Schoology by following the helpful directions in this video:  Student Directions on How to Check Grades in Schoology

Please reach out to me if you have questions regarding your child's experience in my class.  I want to support your child to receive the best education and am glad to work with our families to ensure your child's academic and social/emotional needs are met.  I would look forward to hearing from you!
