Design and Modeling - 7th Grade
Our 7th graders take Design and Modeling. This is a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course, where students learn how to model in 2D and 3D.
We begin the course with review of measurement and basic geometry in order to prepare students for instruction on drafting. Students then learn about using industry standard Adobe Products (Photoshop and Illustrator) to make 2D images and models, which they can then create in the real world using our large 60W laser engraver.
The second half of the course is focused on modeling in 3D, where students use software like Onshape to build 3D models, which they then print on our 3D printers.
Design and modeling gives students the opportunity to practice skills that they can expand on in high school to develop skills that they can use in many different careers.
